This treaty was signed at the International Conference of American States in Montevideo, Uruguay on December 26, 1933. It entered into force on December 26, 1934. The treaty discusses the definition and rights of statehood and is generally refereed to by delegates when discussing questions of state cession and of self determination. Therefore it is important for any delegate to know the contents and the pillars of statehood mentioned in this convention.
